We’ve talked quite much about customer service, how to keep loyal customers and why they are important to any business. We explained that customers are very important to any business. In fact, they are the reason why any business is in existence.
The effectiveness of any business depends on how you treat your customers your customers and how many loyal customers, you have that have been doing business with you continually; above all, making your customers feel satisfied. When your customers are satisfied, they will continue doing business with you.
Also, they may refer their friends, family or loved ones to do business with you and you will also be able to compete with competitors in the marketplace because of the exceptional customer service that you are providing.
Remember, I said earlier in my previous article that to make new customers is easier than to convert already existing customers to loyal and returning customers.
To retain customers is so challenging, but with some tips, you can excite them and keep them coming back to do more business with you. In most cases, most of these customers will cost you nothing to excite them.
A person like me, I cherish anyone that compliments me, generally, people like compliments, so try your possible best to compliment them, admire them but make sure you don’t flatter them.
Look for something good about your customer and talk about it. You can say something like “Aunty you are looking good” and many more compliments, anything that makes a customer happy.
Call them by their names
You may say don’t know your customer by name, if you make such statement; it is a clear indication that you don’t care about your customers, inquire and know about their name. People like to be called by their names.
Also, name attracts more attention than addressing someone as madam or sir. For example, let’s pretend you are passing by the road and you hear someone shout your name; you will definitely turn to see who is calling, so the power of calling customers by their name can never be underestimated when it comes to making the customers excited
Have customers’ day
Set aside one day to celebrate customer’s day. On the customer’s day, prepare a gift for each of these customers. You can also give out a star prize that will be won by one lucky winner. Use a raffle ticket to choose or determine the winner.
This star prize may be a car, refrigerator or whatever thing that you are capable of giving out. Note that a star prize must be something that is presentable.
With these, you will notice that the next edition of your customer’s day celebration will automatically increase as well as the number of your loyal customers. This event can be done annually or in every six months. I personally recommend this event to be an annual event.
Send your customers’ surprise
People like good things and surprises, a person like me, what makes me so happy with my bank is that they surprise me in some special days of my life; this makes me feel that I’m important.
Get a database that carries all of your customer’s information so you can use it to figure out some special days in their lives, these may be either their birthday or their year of marriage, whatever may be the case. Send them gifts, as well. Whatever you do with this effect must all be in the name of the business.
Honor your customers with some awards
Just like identifying with your customers on special days, honoring them with some wards is also very important, you can pick your best 20 customers and honor them with an award. You can also give them gifts on some other days aside from the customer’s day celebration.
Ask your customers for their own opinion
This is one of the most important reasons why you have suggestion boxes in most of the banks and some big business centers, asking for your customers’ opinion will help grow your business and also correct some flaws that may prevent you from delivering quality customer service.
Asking them one on one for their opinion makes them feel important and also glad that they have something much more that money to contribute to the success of your business.
This will also make them excited because they feel being part of the business. You can ask them questions like”How would you grade us”? The response they give you will tell you how well you’ve done, if not quite well, then you improve on your customer service delivery.
Giving customers free things
People like free things, yes FREE THINGS. If you are selling cosmetics, do you think giving out 1 perfume for free to your customer will ruin your business? The answer is NO, giving your customers free thing once in a while will not make your business to crumble, but rather bring more customers to your cosmetic shop. The power of free gift in this case can never be underestimated.
Now you have all the excitement of your customers in your hands. Go ahead and make them excited and it will in turn boost your business.
